The Solar Powered Micro:Bit Sensing Units are now installed and working well in Transmission Zone 2, which is beside a sheugh (small stream). We discussed the moisture of the woodland soil beside a stream: will the sensor closest to the water have the highest reading? Can you see what the temperature is? What number is the light level sensor reading?
The Solar Powered Micro:Bit Sensing Units continue functioning in the dark due to the rechargable battery packs.
Note the blue solar indictor lights are no longer illuminated. The light readings are 0; the temperature has dropped and the moisture levels have increased slightly, why do you think that might be?
These code examples were to help the Digital Leaders to explore their Micro:Bit functionality:
There was a visitor to Transmission Zone 2 at 11:30pm on Wednesday night: a little mouse!
Here is the “Classroom” data readings – these are what were recorded live on Tuesday
in Kilkeel Primary School! Can you discover:
What was the humidity level in school on Tuesday? How did it compare to the humidity data from a tree in Mourne Park at the same time? How high were was the particle reading from school? – were there many tiny particules in the air?

Kilkeel Primary School itinerary :
Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th September 2024
Day1:Visit from Phillip to school on Tuesday 24th September 2024
Presentation about the Space To Learn project delivered to Key Stage 2 pupils in the Hall
Pupils from P7, P6 and P5 then experienced coding Micro:Bits together in class using Digit<all> inspired resources
The 9 Digital Leaders were also in attendance for the Micro:Bit classroom workshops
Day 2:The 9 Digital Leaders and selected members of staff met at Mourne Park on Wednesday 25th September
Pupils were shown the Space To Learn outdoor experiments in action then they installed the three Solar Powered Micro:Bit Sensing Units in Transmission Zone 2
During this they recorded a short video for sharing with the rest of the school upon their return.
