App Building Club in Review

We have begun a process of building apps for mobile phones following the goIT resources which were kindly provided by TATA, and the free online app creation system created by MIT which is found at: https://appinventor.mit.edu

The 22 members of our App Building Club, drawn from the three Key Stage 3 year groups, have shown themselves to be highly talented and eager to learn about this aspect of IT, as well as many others.

We have welcomed pupils from the outset that seek to focus on their own interest area within computing – each uniquely driven to explore the world of technology as it excites them – many bringing in their own equipment, and all bringing with them the spark of enthusiasm that has driven us forward so quickly.

It has been striking how rapidly the breath of our learning has developed and the scope of the club grown to meet the interests of all.

As we come towards the end of term, this site will remain as a reference destination for App Building. The following links include tutorials, examples and supporting materials. Please explore these at your own pace and let me know how you get on (anleyp@lydiardparkacademy.org.uk)

Next week (21st June) will be the PC Building Special that was requested, and the following week (28th June) will be a robotics taster session.

Looking ahead to the academic year 2022 / 23 there will be further opportunities for innovative IT provided as an after school (Session 6) club.

The Advanced Robotics Club (ARC) will return, along with other physical computing initiatives and some pupils will be able to take part in a weekly animation workshop.

In advance of this, there follows a new interactive working wall which is specifically for App Building Club members to add their thoughts and ideas about what aspects of IT they would like to see offered in school in the future:

These remaining links are related to other interesting areas of IT that it is hoped will be inspiring!

Thank you for taking part in the App Building Club. We hope that you will also be able to join in to future IT clubs in school.

Please note that spaces in the Advanced Robotics Club are very limited due to a high number of existing members that wish to remain, and pupil-specific funding which is kindly provided by the Nationwide Building Society.

Over the next academic year the members of ARC will be working towards a Robotics Qualification, which is certified by BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT. This is a brand new qualification which is under final development. As such, the pupils of Lydiard Park Academy will be the first ever to be offered this exciting new qualification!
