Mum

Notable Moment

In the mid 1960s Mum was living on the Isle of Man while she kept an eye on her father's mining interests. She was sailing her trimaran Metis around the island when she grounded on the beach. Walking to the nearest pub for help, she asked those in there who could help her with a boat to tow Metis afloat again. Dad offered, and within a week they were engaged.

Mum’s health declined rapidly in recent years. The specialist care that was found for Mum was essential.

Whilst living in St Joseph’s nursing home, Mum made an impression on all of those that she met and still enjoyed visits to the shorefront and park, as well as meals in the Whistledown – as recently as August 2023.

Born in Barrasford in Northumberland, Mum grew up further South in Cheshire. Mum’s parents had two other children, our late Uncle Nick and a daughter Jane who passed away in childhood.

Mum has supported many local charities and organisations including the Friends of Mourne Grange, The RNLI and Riding for the Disabled.

Serving as JP and DL she also supported the community to the best of her ability throughout her time living in Mourne.
